Portfolio & Services
The following projects are a selection of solutions I have realized during my engineering career.
Development is always a collaborative team effort.
Victorinox: Electronics in a Pocket Knife
Industrialization of the "Traveller" pocket knife electronics with integrated altimeter.
- Challenge: "Lowest Power" requirements and industrialization for mass production (several hundred thousand units). Software development in 4-bit assembler for mask-programmed processors. Requirements for water and dishwasher resistance.
- Solution: Implementation of comprehensive functional tests at every production step and intensive software audits before mask release.
- Result: A global success for Victorinox, maintaining the highest "Swiss Made" quality standards in outdoor sensing.
Roche Diagnostics: COBAS Integra 400
Head of Electronics Development for the COBAS Integra 400 project.
- Challenge: Design of power supplies and robotic drives. Compliance with strict FDA and IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) quality standards. Implementation of new, rigorous EMC guidelines.
- Solution: Development of new calculation methods for motor dimensioning in robotic drives and establishing clear EMC design standards for the cross-functional team.
- Result: A highly reliable medical product that remained successful on the market for over 20 years.
Flytec 6015 Variometer
Flight instruments for paragliders and hang gliders with high-precision altimeter, variometer, and GPS.
- Challenge: Achieving a variometer resolution of less than 2 cm/s with minimal power consumption for long-duration flights. Integration of GPS modules.
- Solution: Complex calibration processes for silicon pressure sensors using custom-built temperature chambers and pressure calibration devices. Innovative A/D conversion and navigation algorithms.
- Result: Flytec became the global market leader for flight instruments. The sensitivity of the variometer function remains unmatched by smartphones or competitors.
